Irish producer and songwriter Ciarán steps out from behind his Bearface moniker to announce his debut solo project, ushering in a new chapter with “K-Bar”, his first release since BROCKHAMPTON disbanded in 2022.
Leaving the name behind opened up a seemingly endless range of musical possibilities for Ciarán, and rather than rush to define his next move, he took the time to experiment with different sounds and approaches until he found something that felt entirely his own. “I’d rather wait and take my time than just put something out because of any sort of perceived pressures from anyone else,” he explains.
That patient, exploratory process comes into focus on “K-Bar”, which opens in a rush of blown-out distortion before giving way to a hazy, low-slung groove. Warped synths, heavy bass and clipped percussion surround Ciarán’s close, understated vocal, creating a sound that feels simultaneously intimate and disorienting.
The single comes ahead of his debut solo live performance at NYC’s Christ & St Stephen’s Church – which sold out within minutes of being announced. The intimate show will bring his new music to the stage for the first time.
By bringing a borderless musical philosophy to BROCKHAMPTON, Ciarán helped the collective completely redefine the traditional boy band archetype and expand genre boundaries as one of its core vocal centers, capturing a passionate global fanbase.
After unveiling a new website last week, the arrival of Ciarán’s latest chapter was met with immediate and resounding acclaim. Addressing the warm reception to his comeback, Ciarán shared a note of appreciation via his website stating, "I really and truly appreciate every single person who has remained excited at even the prospect of me coming back and releasing something. It's been an extensive and intentional process and I hope you can enjoy the music (and the process of that which it comes) with an open heart and I hope it can become something that you could see yourself living with for a long while."
